Remember to place your Fruit & Furniture orders in time for Father's Day delivery and snack your way to "5 A Day"!

You've got to have a a love of risk to keep doing certain things such as jumping out of airplanes with a parachute on your back (like sister Barbara and brother-in-law Stan do on a regular basis) or trying to make a living growing fruit. Sometimes orcharding is all blue sky: a mild spring without killing freezes; ample water throughout the growing season; no pest infestations or outbreaks of disease to devastate the crop and trees; a smooth running harvest without labor worries; and finally, a fair and decent price for the fruit that you deliver to market in the fall. As growers, we give thanks for such a year. Political attention to improving water supplies with development of additional storage for irrigation and movement towards corraling energy costs, suggest the orchard will be all right in 2001.

Here's a project that just might rock Dad's world this Father's Day! Build a Stone Barbecue!
Construct a Stone Barbeque from these plans!
No one could accuse Dad of being a Weber weanie if you take on the project of building one of these old style stone barbecues this summer! You'll certainly be the talk of the block. The neighbors will all be asking, "What's Joe up to now?" One look at this nostalgic stone barbecue design and you will be flashing back to those fun filled childhood summer days at Camp Give-me-itchy.

Then put together a picnic table for the old homestead!
National Park Service picnic table plans
National Park Service has plans for building your own picnic table. Once you've finished building that stone barbecue, head for your local lumber supply and pickup materials for the picnic table. Or if that's just one more project than you don't have time for, see the classic garden furniture section of our on-line catalog! We have Redwood and Cedar Outdoor and Garden Furniture including solidly constructed and Classic Picnic Tablebeautiful retro-styled picnic tables, Garden Cart, Potting Table and Planter Bench* that will add a natural elegance to your deck or patio! That was the blatant advertising portion of this web-letter.

Classic Fruit Crate Label Art

Hurry! It's A Mover (F.M. Small Fruit Distributor, Company, Sacramento, California)

Before the use of mass produced cardboard boxes, fruit growers, packers and shippers printed labels and attached them to the wooden fruit crates or boxes used in shipping. Many examples of these old labels can be found in antique stores and other places which deal in antiquities and collectibles. The images proudly displayed here by FruitFromWashington.com, are of labels that were never used on boxes but were laid aside and somehow survived after they became obsolete in the industry. See more fruit crate label art in our online collection.

The FruitFromWashington Archive Feature metaphorically blows the dust off of an image or document from our past and brings it to the light of day for a new audience to see.
